Process Priorities

A development process has five goals, in this priority order:

1. Visible
2. Repeatable
3. Sustainable
4. Predictable
5. Efficient

Visible: Establish a collective understanding of priorities - what is being worked on and by whom.

Repeatable: Regular planning cadence. Consistent tracking of work and status.

Sustainable: Minimize fire drills and burnout. Write tests so you can refactor designs and add capabilities.

Predictable: Insight into milestones and roadmap schedule. Enable future planning (using techniques like velocity).

Efficient: A well-running, effective team. Increase capability without large team expansion.

Visibility and repeatability can usually be achieved through simple process adoption. Sustainability is generally achievable with process experience. Predictability and efficiency are usually the last capabilities achieved - the result of well-coordinated, disciplined, process-experienced teams.
