Pre IPM

I strive to have efficient IPMs. So I hold a preliminary planning discussion to review:

• Roadmaps and priorities
• Customer feedback, challenges, and needs
• Status of current efforts

And to:

• Assess current plans and designs
• Brainstorm

The participants are either a subset of the IPM or possibly a different group. Thirty minutes to an hour is my typical Pre IPM duration.

For some, the idea of a Pre IPM with different participants is agile heresy - not perfect transparency, not full team participation. But I don’t think everyone needs to be in every discussion. Sometimes it’s inefficient, and sometimes you want certain perspectives without the entire team present.

This works for me and I accept the tradeoffs. You’ll need to decide what works for you.
